Lady demanded to re-pay the insurer

14 October 2009

Whether it be the crash of the sub-prime market, the challenges facing first time buyers or the plethora of television shows, the issue of property cannot escape public scrutiny. As the biggest financial investment a consumer can make, many people feel an imperative to have their home covered for either building or contents insurance or both.

As reported in London's free daily the Metro, the ever increasing minefield of the Insurance market is becoming more unfavourable towards the consumer. A front cover expose of Michelle Barber, whose husband burned down the family home after their divorce settlement, has been forced to pay back over £240, 000 she received as a payout from her insurance company Aviva. The company claim that she was not entitled to any payout at all bacause of a previous benefit conviction undisclosed at the time the product was purchased.

Shellshocked Barber was left asking 'why did no one tell me such a tiny fine could do this'. Unfortunately, she is not alone. Leading claims management firm Challengeyour.com, have built their success on recovering cliams for mis-sold insurance in regards to Payment Protection Insurance against both personal loans and credit cards. Handling many claims similar to the scenario Michelle Barber faced, their expertise lies in identifying whether the insurance has been 'mis-sold'. If a seller failed to fully explain all the requirements necessary to claim or appeared to be biased in any way when selling a product, an attempt can be made to recover all premiums paid. In the case of Barber, it could argued that the fact that her previous conviction precluded her from ever receiving a payout, she should perhaps have never been sold the product in the first place.

If you have been a victim of inappropriate Payment Protection Insurance, or have bought this product without knowledge in the fist place, challengeyour.com can help. Director Adam Thomsett claims 'selling of Payment Protection Insurance continues to be sold to consumers on both loans and credit cards, while they remain totally unaware of what they are investing in or the full costs involved'.
