Can I claim bank charges even if I have closed my account?
14 October 2009
The Statute of Limitation states that bank charges can be
reclaimed for up six years from when the claim is made.
Therefore providing you have the account number, which can
easily be obtained by contacting customer services, whether
the account is open or not is irrelevant.
All reclaims have been put on hold however, until there
is a final verdict in the Supeme Court to decide whether
bank charges are lawful.
In the intermin, challengeyour.com has registered thousands
of claims against the banks which will be reopened once a
verdict has been reached and the OFT has established what
a fair level of charging is.
