Q&A
What happens if you discover that I owe tax to HMRC
An initial free review of your P60′s will identify whether you owe any tax.Only YOU will be informed, NOT HMRC, and we will not continue with your claim.
How much can I claim back?
It depends on how much you have earned, and how much tax you have paid. If for example, you have earned below the personal allowance for a particular tax year, you will receive every penny of the tax you have paid back, which could amount to a significant amount. The average refund is around £1,350.
How many years can I claim my tax back?
In most cases, you can claim back 5 years (from 6 April 2006). However, after 5 April 2012 you will only be able to claim back for the previous four years (from 6 April 2008).
How soon can I expect to receive my refund?
Between 6 to 8 weeks from the time that we lodge your claim. Some claims may exceed the expected completion time due to incorrect or insufficient information and/or unavoidable delays caused by HMRC.
Am I still entitled to claim back my tax if I have left the UK?
Yes, and we will guide you through the process.
What is a personal allowance?
This is the amount of income that you are entitled to earn per year before tax is calculated.
What evidence do I need to make a claim?
Original P60′s and P45’s/P11D’s (if applicable). We can help you obtain these documents from HMRC if you are unable to locate them. Further documentation may be required depending on the nature of your claim.
